EPISODE XVIII: I'LL FIND YOU SOMEWHERE
Christine
looked at Adam watching the twins sleep in cots and she came up to him with a
smile
"Are
you sure you're okay?"
"Yes,
Christine! Thank you for asking!" he looked at Faith agitate himself "She’ll
wake up soon!"
Christine
leaned over the cradle to brush her cheek with his hand "You sleep! Or I’ll
have to wake up daddy!"
"In
eight months I would have had a son too!"
"Was Stella
pregnant?"
Adam nodded
"It should have been called Cleo Daphne, if it was a girl, and Ares, if it
was a boy!"
Christine
took his hand "Why didn’t you stay in New Orleans?"
"I
couldn’t!" said Adam "Everything in New Orleans speaks to me about
Stella and I cannot stand it! She is gone and it makes me sick!"
Christine
looked at Faith fidgeting and opening her eyes "Should you take her in
your arms, do you?"
"What?"
"Please!
It is the first time that I see Mac sleep since you’ve got back from New
Orleans!"
Not far
away, in the streets Manhattan’s downtown, a couple of guys was wandering
holding a newspaper
"Are
you sure about the risk that we're going to run?" said the first
The second
laughed mocking hidden in the shadows "One of our brother informed me that
they are twins! He ended up in prison because of their father!"
"For
the rite only three pairs of twins are needed! Why we don’t choose others?"
"Because
our best chemical, Edward Finch, is in jail and we will avenge him!"
"What
exactly will happen to the children?"
"You
will see it with your own eyes!"
Jo looked
at the two baby cots in a room, empty, trying to detect fingerprints
"Nothing
yet?" Sheldon asked her snapping pictures
"Aside
from the smell of bleach, we have nothing else! Pass me the Luminol!"
Lindsay and
Danny were questioning the parents in the living room
"Gentlemen
Robinson, is very important!" Danny pointed out "What do you remember
about last night?"
"Valerie
got up twice!" the man said
"The
children woke up only twice yesterday and I thought they were getting used to
sleep through the night!" the woman shivered "Then Ben got up this
morning and told me that were no longer there!"
Lindsay
looked down and Mrs. Robinson stared into her eyes "You have children, do
you?"
Danny
answered for her "We have two of them!"
"You're
married and you work together?" Mr. Robinson asked and seeing nodding the
two added "We know that you will do your best to find them! Please hurry
up!"
"The
only thing we can say is that those who kidnapped them didn’t do it for a
ransom. They would have already contacted you and probably you wouldn’t have
called the police!"
Jo looked
at Danny and Lindsay and went out into the street with Sheldon
"Let's
go! Probably we will find something more if we analyze the pictures!"
Mac's eyes
were swollen and his arms were heavy and he was struggling to stand up. He
leaned on the bathroom sink and he rinsed his face with cold water. He looked
back at himself, he saw tarnished, and yet he had slept for hours, he tried to
pick his tie that was over the ground, but to just doing it, he felt dizziness.
In the next
room, Christine had his own problem: she could hardly stand up and she began to
feel weak and tired. She leaned against the wall and started to breathe
heavily.
Adam came
home after being out and saw Christine on the ground, he wrinkled his nose and
hurried to open the windows
"Christine!
Please wake up! Wake up!"
He saw that
Mac was trying to get up in the bathroom and he heard him say in a faint voice
"The children Adam!"
Adam rushed
into the room and saw the empty cradles and window open "Oh shit!" he
leaned toward the outside, but he saw nobody "Shit!" he exclaimed a
second time picking up the phone in his hand "I need an ambulance and the
forensic team to the apartment of Lieutenant Mac Taylor! Hurry up!”
Mac was held
to his feet against the wall "Adam!" he called him feebly "Move
over!"
Adam
stepped aside and the look of Mac became sheer terror
"No!
It cannot really have happened!"
Jo looked
at Mac scared to walk back and forth to the hospital room
"Mac!
Calm down! You should be resting! You have just been intoxicated by Chloroform!"
"How
can I calm myself, when my children have been kidnapped?"
Adam came
into the room "You should be in bed!"
Mac noticed
the files that Adam had in his hand "What's that?"
"The
results of a sample of air in your home! I won’t tell you more if you don’t get
into bed!" Mac lay on the bed and Adam went on "So, in the air of
your apartment, there were up to 900 ppm Chloroform! Thank goodness I arrived
at the right time! With your case we got to the third pair of twins disappeared
in Manhattan in two days and the case of today is the one who made more
newsworthy in the media! The newspapers of tomorrow will be talking about this
story in the first few pages!" he looked at Mac and saw that he had a
blank look "What are you thinking?"
"That
I have to pay a visit to the murderer that I put in prison on Valentine's
Day!"
Jo
remembered in that moment "Edward Finch! Do you really think he had
anything to do with that?"
"Yes!
He threatened me! Want to question him with Flack!"
In the
opposite room, Christine was holding the hand of Lindsay
"I
cannot get up! I want to find my children!"
"But
now you need to rest! Don’t worry! We are taking care to look for them!"
Christine
began to cry "What if something happened? Where is Mac? Does he knows what
has happened?"
"Mac
is in the next room with Jo! He knows everything! Try to rest!"
"I
want to go looking for Kenny and Faith! Every minute I spend here I risk to lose
them!"
Danny
looked in "Same Mac’s hard head! To put him to bed and making him not
leave the hospital it took a thousand blackmails! You should thank Adam! If he
hadn’t found you in time, we'd be looking for two orphaned twins!"
Lindsay
wiped Christine's tears "To fuss worsens your health!"
"I
feel stupid! I haven’t protected them!"
Danny shook
his head "To begin with it, these bastards have used the ventilation
system to make it possible to chloroform spread in the house. Second, while you
were semi-unconscious they broke the window and took away the children. Third,
they are so clever and skillful as they hadn’t left even a fingerprint!"
"You
could tell her that in another moment, Danny!" Lindsay exclaimed seeing
Christine resume to cry.
Danny
sighed "Mac has a trace already! Apparently on Valentine’s Day they have
threatened him to kidnap his children! I'm going to question Edward Finch!"
he walked over to Christine and patted her head "As soon as I’ll find
something, I'll come to the hospital and to refer it to you and Mac! Rest, and
tonight you'll feel better!"
Fack and
Jaime looked at each other shocked
"Danny,
the sons of Mac have disappeared for real?" she asked
Danny ran
his hand over his face "Yes, and Adam will help us!"
Flack took
the files of the other two cases and put them on the desk showing them to Danny
"This
morning you have investigated a disappearance of twins, now even those of Mac
have disappeared and this is the case on other twins disappeared two days ago!"
Flack walked to the computer and opened an e-mail "Read what the Detective
Quinn Shelby from Jersey City sent me!"
Danny
leaned real monitor "Last year it happened to them and the case is
unresolved! The message does not end here! Can you scroll down?"
Flack
frowned and made Danny to read the rest: “We found six
dead bodies of infants near the river!”
Jaime
blanched "Don, we need to get a move on!"
Danny took
his iPhone and began to write a message to Jo "Better warn her!"
Jo looked
out the window of his office when the phone rang
"Detective
Hawkes!"
"It’s
Flack! We have problems with Finch: he doesn’t speak!"
Jo slammed
with energy her eyelids "In which sense he doesn’t speak?! How long have
you been questioning him?"
"Two
hours and a half! Danny is exhausted and Jaime no longer knows which threatens
to use!"
Jo
instantly worried "Well, at this point, it is better to wait for Mac! I
hope that, when they’ll resign him, he can help us!"
Flack
sighed "I'm afraid, to be honest! They've just kidnapped his children and
he has the possible mandatory in a cell! If I were Mac, I would use every means
to get to the truth!"
Mac felt
something warm and soft which it rested on his stomach stroking him gently. He
opened his eyes and he lifted up jumping sitting
"Christine!
Are you okay?"
"I'm
worried and I want to get out of here! Not even you're quiet! You had a
restless sleep and you said:
-You're
gonna pay! You will not get away with this!-. To whom were you saying
that?"
Mac leaned
back against the pillow and looked at Christine's left arm where the IV needle
penetrated the skin
"They
threatened me February 14! Edward Finch, that which we have found to be the
collector of widows’ hearts, he told me that he would take the kids! I kept him
under control since he is in jail, I banned him from any contact with the
outside! How did he implement his threat?"
Christine
kissed his forehead "Maybe they had already planned to do that
before!"
Two doctors
came into the room
"What
are you doing here Mrs. Taylor? You ought to be in your room to rest!" the
first said.
Mac said
the second doctor and whispered to Christine "He has a syringe in his
right hand with a needle too big! Run away!"
Christine
rose from the bed and turned to leave. The doctor who had entered for second
was about to follow her when she, before going through the door, hit him with a
backhand at the neck, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious. The
syringe was over away from him.
The other
doctor pulled out a knife and lunged on Mac who made him fall on the other side
of the bed with a kick.
Mac and
Christine sighed together
"I'll
call Flack!"
"Yes
Mac! I would say that is the case to get out of here! The headache will pass me
at my father's house!"
Mac dialed
the number and looked at Christine put a hand to her forehead.
The man who
had landed Christine stood up and, after pulling out a second syringe, he
rushed at her, knocking her to the ground, and he sat astride over her by
blocking her.
Mac
instantly jumped to his feet, leaving the phone ringing on the bed with
speakerphone
"Take
a step Lieutenant and she will die," the man with the mask on your face
admonished him
"Mac!
What's going on Mac? "
The fake
doctor was shocked on hearing the voice of Flack and Christine tried to take
advantage of it squirming
"Stop
bitch! I swear to you that I inject this seriously at you, "he said,
squeezing her legs around Christine's belly and hips.
Mac walked
a few paces advantage of the opportunity and saw the coat of Christine stained
with red at the shoulder due to the old injury recovering
"Mac
we're coming!" Flack said into the phone
"Let
her go! What do you want?" Mac said
"Are
you willing that your beloved twins stay alive?" the man asked picking up
the coat of Christine and touching her the right thigh.
Christine
had been alarmed at that gesture and her breathing got accelerated
"Don’t
you dare to touch her!" Mac threatened him
"I may
be left alone in this room, but not out of here!" he grinned weighing on
the body of Christine, who was trying to break free of him. He kept touching
her on the right thigh first outside and then inside watching her jump and pant
worried
"You
have only a short time to save your kids! Now I'll enjoy a little with her and
then I'll make you my offer!" he was about to unbuckling his belt with his
left hand holding the syringe pointed at Christine's throat.
Mac took a
risky decision: he threw himself on the man, before he could do harm to
Christine, he started on top of her to shield her with his body from the
syringe that was going to end up in her chest.
A muffled
cry of Mac alarmed Christine and at that moment they heard the police sirens as
well
"You
can still save your children Taylor! In fact now you will be forced to look for
us if you want to save you too!" the man said running away
Mac rose up
by Christine "Are you okay?"
"Yes!
Are you hurt?"
"I
have only this syringe in the back! Please remove it from me!" he said
slipping on the floor on his stomach "Do it determined!"
Christine
rose up, she took the syringe with one hand while the other hand pressed on the
back of the Mac and took it away.
Mac
shouted, squinting his eyes and clenching his fists "Whatever's in there,
it burns!"
"I
think with what is left in the syringe, it can try to analyze the
content!"
"But
now, let me see your shoulder!"
Flack opened
the door of the room "My God! What has happened here?"
Danny,
Jaime and Sheldon were behind him and looked at Christine with syringe in her
hand and Mac who controlled her bleeding shoulder.
Mac stood
up confused "I want to know what I've been infected with, Sheldon! Please,
you must help me! We cannot stay here! We need protection and I have to
question Edward Finch!"
Christine
helped him to stand upright "Now you have to stay calm!"
Jaime ran
out and came back with the doctor on duty
"What
happened in here?!"
Mac pointed
to the unconscious man near the bed "A perfect question to ask him when he
wakes up!"
Christine
looked at Mac and then Flack "The other had the gloves and a face mask,
but it could have left traces on me!"
Sheldon
looked Mac to nod at him "Come with me into the other room Christine! Let's
see if we can find something!"
Christine
stroked Mac on the cheek "You'll be fine! We will do everything we can to
heal you! Whatever you have! Thanks for saving me!"
"You're
my wife, Christine! -As long as both of you have life- I don’t intend to miss
this promise!"
Jo and
Angela listened to the voice of Sheldon from the office
"It's
something that I cannot explain yet! We’ve only the DNA that was under
Christine's nails!”
"Please
tell me that Danny will find something!"
"He
will do the analysis on the syringe, but it is all to see! Maybe we will
understand what Mac will have to worry about!"
Angela
stared at the screen just went black for a while
"They
kidnap their children and then they try to kill them!" she turned to Jo
"What do they want from Mac and Christine?"
"Let’s
try to find out it! Let's go to Danny and let us help him with the analysis of
the syringe!" she said pointing to him at work.
Danny and
Lindsay examined the contents of the syringe
"How
many components do we have?" he asked worried
"Three!
Adam is analyzing them one by one!" Lindsay showed him.
Jo and
Angela placed side by side them
"How
does the search proceed?" asked Jo
"I
think that soon we'll need the help of Isabella!" Danny added looking at
the result of the virus.
Adam appeared
from behind the computer "We have all the components! I do not like what I
see!"
Angela
rushed to look at the screen "Oh Mac! What they injected you?"
Jo looked
at the list on the screen with the characteristics of each virus on next: Cytomegalovirus,
Simian virus 40 (SV40), Poliomavirus BK.
"I
read an article!" Adam said breaking the silence "Mac has temporarily
immune defenses lower than normal, he was a smoker when he was in the Marines
and the fact that he's also a genetic predisposition, by his father, it makes his
case even more at risk!"
the others
were already pale
"Lung
Cancer!" Lindsay whispered "If Mac falls ill..."
"I don’t
even want to think about it!" Danny snapped.
"The
hard part will be to tell him that he could end up as his father!" Adam
concluded.
Mac and
Christine were in the hospital’s consulting room with Flack and Jaime
"I
forbid you to come to the precinct with me, Mac!" Flack said "Now you
go to do further testing, while we make sure that Christine arrives safely at
another hospital to do tests too! You might have infected her!"
"Please!
Let me interrogate that parasite and Edward Finch! My kids are in danger!"
Flack
sighed "Okay, Mac! Provided that before you go to do tests!"
Jaime tried
to convince Christine to stay quiet "Come on Christine! We will find Faith
and McKenna!"
"I'm
afraid! I don’t know what Mac has and I don’t know where my children are now!"
"But
you have to be quiet! A little while ago you've experienced a bad time and you
need to rest! We will put an escort in the hospital and out of your room!"
Mac looked
at Christine and approached her "Please go and do tests! Tomorrow morning,
when you’ll wake up I'll be by your side and I hope I’ll can also tell you
where the twins are!"
Christine
shook his hand "Don’t let me down!"
"In
the two and a half years that we’ve been together since now, have I ever done
that?" he made to reduce the distance between them, but he soon withdrew
back "I hope I don’t have anything infectious, my love! The last thing I
want is for our children to lose you too!"
Adam came
in with the results of the liquid syringe
"They
will have to puncture you a little, Mac! You risk a lot, but not you,
Christine!"
"You're
so close to me, what do you risk?" he asked worried
"Nothing
about that! Some viruses that are injected into you, normally, eighty percent
of the population contracts them without consequences!"
"But I
have low immune defenses, right?"
Adam
frowned "In addition all together... you told me about your father Mac
when we were investigating the case of the Gravedigger and then you..."
Mac was
surprised "What?! My father?! The Gravedigger?!"
Adam sighed
and called upon his courage "It has been proven that all viruses which
have been injected you may have an influence in the development of... Look, I
cannot tell you! So read the viruses! You will understand by yourself!"
Mac took
the papers and read the names of the virus "Lung cancer!" he said in
a whisper almost inaudible by turning white
"What
is it Mac?" Christine asked
"Nothing
serious!" he merely said.
Christine
exclaimed "Mac, I want the truth!"
Mac began
to shiver "I can’t! I cannot tell you it!"
"Hand
me those papers!" she ordered. Flack handed them to her and Christine read
them "No! It cannot be true!"
"Poor
children!" a man in his seventies with a lab coat said looking at four
small babies "I bet your parents will be worried about you! So small that
you still do not know to talk!"
"Chief!"
a young man said entering "We were able to bring them to you! Tommy come
on in!"
A boy came
forward bringing in the arms two children who would not stop crying
"I
want to introduce you to the Taylor twins!"
The man
smiled "Excellent! they will be perfect guinea pigs! Put them with the
others!" when the children were placed in a cradle the man turned to him "How
does it feel to be almost entered into our big family, Tommy?"
"Well!
What will happen to the children?"
"I'm
doing scientific discoveries on the twins! I will use them as guinea pigs and
then they will be used for the ritual of Friday! So you will enter, along with
two other novices, in the order!"
"I am
honored of this, Master!"
Danny and
Lindsay observed the DNA collected from Christine’s nails
"
Danny, look!" Lindsay said
"Hahaha!
Boom! I'm sure that Mac now, if he were here, would thank us and would not look
forward to question him!" Danny exulted
"Go
get him then!" Lindsay said "This case needs to be solved before
Friday!"
Danny
smiled "It's a word! We are at Tuesday!"
"I'm
going home to the children and to see how Christine is!"
Lindsay
walked into the hallway and was flanked by Jo “Hello!”
"Lindsay,
I wanted to go to Christine to see how she was! What are you doing?"
"Actually,
I was going to be with her! I'm glad if we go together!"
The two
arrived to Christine and found her intent on staring at nothing
"Christine!
Hello!" Jo greeted her by sitting next to her
"Hello
Jo! Hello Lindsay!" she said trying to stay relaxed "I'm losing him!
I am losing Mac! I just got a message from him! He will pursue an antibiotic
treatment, but he could develop cancer because of genetic predisposition!"
Jo looked
down "There is a chance that it doesn’t happen! Don't get ahead of
yourself!" she gently stroked her
"We
have found the man who wanted to rape you! Danny is going to take him!” Lindsay
told her "We will also find the twins!"
"Lindsay!
Mac is at the precinct! Flack says he doesn’t want to remain at the hospital
and that he wants to question Finch, Brown and Hardy!" Jo said looking at
the phone.
Christine
looked at Jo surprise "The man said that if he wanted to save himself the
only option was to find them!"
"They're
an organization!" Lindsay exclaimed
"Yeah,
and apparently they have an accurate way to act! The children who have been
found in Jersey City had no more blood in their veins!" Jo said "I
understand that Mac wants to investigate at any cost!"
Mac walked
back and forth in front of Edward Finch
"Are
we getting nervous, Lieutenant?" the man sitting in the chair laughed
mockingly
"Speak!
Or I swear I will send out my colleague and we will stay here alone!" Mac
shouted and a vein in his neck became quite evident
"How
scary! Whatever can you do to me? I burned the hand of your colleague with acid
last time!" he smiled looking at Flack
“Listen up,
you bastard! I could really leave you alone with Lieutenant Taylor! For sure
you will be surprised to see his anger!"
"I see
before me a man with a fever that if he gets angry, he risks losing all energies
and fall to the ground!" Finch responded to Flack "Did you like the
surprise of the sting Lieutenant? How is your wife? Isn’t she likely of getting sick?"
Mac
clenched his fists "Flack, get out! Leave me alone with him!"
"With
pleasure! I'm out of here!"
"Enjoy
the show!" Mac growled while Flack opened the door.
Mac watched
Finch rocking himself on the chair, precisely on the two front legs, he
approached him slowly and calmly
"Be
careful to swing on the chair!" he kicked at one of the two legs and Finch
fell to the ground hitting with his face the edge of the cold metal table
"Otherwise you fall and hurt yourself!"
Finch got
to his feet with a broken lip "Very funny, Lieutenant! My lawyer will have
a ton of fun with it!"
"I don’t
doubt it! Even the staff of the morgue will enjoy a lot to put together your
pieces!" he came up a little more ''When you got up, you could take a
retort and fall!" he made a trip up to him and Finch fell to the ground.
Finch
smiled and stood up "You have no idea in what trouble you're getting in!"
"And
you?" Mac replied looking at Finch cling to the table and moving in the
opposite direction. Mac exclaimed "You could do too much weight on the
table and this may tip over!" he lifted the table that bumped into Finch
“Oops! What a unfortunate series of events! You know, others might happen..."
Finch stood
up "Alright Lieutenant! I will speak to you of the sect of -Dark
Scientists- and what they will do your little ones!"
Mac sat
"So we're getting somewhere!"
"You
know who was Josef Mengele?"
"The
SS physician who experimented on twins!" Mac said observing Finch sitting
on the chair
"He
was studying the multiplication breed! My sect is inspired by him partially! We
believe that there is a parallel world where our double will born once finished
our journey here! We want to connect the two universes in order to double the
space and create new forms of life and the twins of the opposite sex are the
key! Believe me when I tell you I had seen the other universe and how it is
light years forward from the ours! I have traveled in the two universes and
they are also interested to link to us!"
Mac held up
a hand to stop him "I have had to deal with things like that once! There
is no key to time travel or possible parallel universes!"
"It
should interest you! It is for this reason that I killed widows! Where do you
think all their hearts are? They are the key that enable them to communicate
with me and link to us! Come on! How was I to know that your children would
disappear? How do I know that at this time you have a lethal combination of
viruses that are changing the playback system of your lungs’ cells and you will
develop a small-cell carcinoma?"
Mac
shivered "What else do you know?"
"That
your wife was nearly raped, that at the moment she feels useless and wants her
children with her! It's as if she was a poor defenseless little girl!"
"Great
strategy of psychological study! It doesn’t work with me!"
Finch
smiled "I knew it would end like this! The only way you can save yourself
for sure it’s a serum which contains the same virus modified to produce the
opposite effect!" Mac looked at him frowning without saying anything"
I cannot tell you where the twins are! I do not know it! In addition I'm just
the chemist! You should talk to the failure future started and his boss! I know
for sure that they know who the kidnappers are!"
Mac left
the room and reached Flack "I want Brown and Hardy in there!"
"Mac,
you're exhausted! You cannot continue investigating! You went well with Finch!
Let me call Danny! You can assist, but swear to me that you will sit down!
You're sweating! The test results confirms that you have some not contagious
infections!"
Mac nodded
"Tell me you've heard too what Finch said!"
"You can
bet on it! I swear if they touch my godson and his sister I’ll hang them
exactly like those two that we found on Valentine's Day!"
Jo and
Lindsay left the hospital and reached the precinct and they saw Mac getting up
from a chair to reach them
"I
questioned Finch and Flack questioned Brown and Hardy! We have a site: the
Freedom Tunnel on the Upper West Side! There is a serum that can avoid me to
develop the disease!"
"We're
coming with you!" Jo said
Mac put his
hand on her shoulder "No Jo! You are pregnant and Lindsay has two
children! I will not let you become involved in a probable gunfight!"
"You
are weak Mac! You have fever and you cannot stand for a long time!"
Lindsay pointed out to him "At the hospital, Christine is worrying about
you!"
"I
have to go to retrieve the only sure cure that exists!"
"Do you
think that the serum actually exists?" Jo asked him
"I don’t
know what to believe in! The Dark Scientists believe that there is a parallel
universe and half of them are scientists looking for cures for cancer, research
on twins and other crazy stuff! However, if they have really a cure, I have to
get it! I have to go to pick my kids up down there before the rite of admission
to the sect is accomplished!"
Flack
arrived out of breath "Jaime, Danny and five police cars are ready to
follow us, Mac!"
Jo followed
them to the door "I'm going to inform Christine! Promise me you won’t
enter in there alone, Mac!"
"Don’t
ask me to make any promises, Jo!"
lack looked
at the entrance of the tunnel "It puts chills!"
"I
will go in there and I'll find them! Whatever it costs me!"
"Mac,
don’t make risky moves and you know that I'll always be by your side!"
Danny said.
Mac patted
him on the shoulder and went "Don’t stand too close! I remind you that
your kids aren’t immune to viruses, especially Sid!"
The tunnel
was wide and the rails were rusty in some areas. Mac picked up the gun and
began to walk near a wall and lit the torch. Behind him other lights lit up the
tunnel.
"How
is it possible that the Writers and all the homeless people who live here have
not noticed anything?" Jaime asked
"Because
it's all hidden under the ground!" Flack told her
Mac watched
the first wooden staircase that descended down "Let’s get divide! Danny
and I will go down here!"
"Well!"
Flack said passing over "If anything happens, use the radios!"
Danny
nodded and rushed behind to Mac who had already disappeared downstairs.
Flack sent
few of his men for any new tunnel and at the end he and Jaime were left alone
to check the last one
"Wait!
I report to the control unit that we need reinforcements!" Flack said
taking the Jaime’s hand who was venturing further.
In the
gallery that smelled of mildew, Mac saw two armed men and made them out to
Danny.
Danny
crawled up against the wall until the first cove, he watched from near one of
the men and, when this was turned back, he came out into the open by pointing
the gun to his head
"NYPD!
Throw the rifle down!"
The man
obeyed and his companion raised his one and pointed it at Danny's head.
"Do
not even think about it!" Mac thundered from behind the other wall
"Who are you?"
"We're
two disciples who must swear allegiance this night!" the one that was
under Danny’s fire said
"Where
are the children who have kidnapped?" Danny asked
"They
are all six from thence! In the lab with our boss!" the one Mac’s with gun
pointed at said
"You
were the ones to creep into my house!" he came to the one who held the
rifle and that was under his fire "Turn around and throws the
weapon!"
"Our
Master won’t let you go away so easily! You will suffer the wrath of our sect!"
Mac laughed
"Of course! Now put your hands behind your back!"
"You
too!" Danny ordered.
Once handcuffed
the two, Mac looked at Danny
"Keep
an eye on them while I recover the kids and call Flack! We need reinforcements!"
Mac walked
into the lab and, behind a curtain made with a sheet of plastic on a metal
table, he saw three males babies
"Damn!
They are almost frozen!" he said touching McKenna’s skin with his hand.
There was no one in there and he decided to take off his jacket to cover them
and keep them warm "Now I’ll try your sisters !"
A faint cry
drew him towards another tent and he saw three baby girls and the one who was
crying it was Faith
"Baby!
Don’t cry! I came to rescue you!" Mac smiled caressing her hand.
The baby girl
raised her head for a few seconds and smiled.
Mac looked
at the other baby girls, it was obvious that they were scared too
"Well!
What do we have here?" a chilling voice said behind Mac and turned
abruptly "Lieutenant Taylor! It is so touching that you have come up here!
Almost, I didn’t hope more to this! I thought the Chloroform and a cocktail of
viruses would be sufficient! Evidently I was wrong! Moreover, a parent would do
anything for the children including challenging death!"
"I've
been defying death every day for thirty-one years! For now, I've always won!"
"But
this time it's not going that way! Am I wrong or your life expectancy has an
expiration date? If your children survive today you will see them finish the kindergarten
and begin primary school!"
Mac stepped
up to the scientist "You have something that can help me! In addition to
saving the children that you have made kidnap, I'm here to take that thing!"
"That
serum doesn’t exist yet, Lieutenant! I just discovered a formula! Nothing else!"
the scientist smiled "There's one thing I know for sure though! You and
the six children you will not leave from this tunnel! They will be used for the
ritual and you're going to die down here!"
"I
wouldn’t swear on this!" Mac commented
"Then
look above your head!"
Mac looked
up and saw thirty men with the gun pointed at him "You have done well your
math!"
"But
not enough!" Danny said coming from behind with Flack, Jaime and policemen
also appeared behind the men of sect’s Master
"The
formula!" Mac ordered by pulling out the gun
"Look
for it if you want! I won’t tell you where it is! Lieutenant, you're already a
dead man walking, to me!"
Mac
approached the man and took his hands and he handcuffed them behind his back
"From
this evening, you won’t kill no longer any baby!"
Lost in the darkness
Hoping for a sign
Instead there's only silence
Can't you hear my screams?
The Master
was taken away and Mac rejoined his daughter who had begun to cry again
"Calm
down, my little girl! It's all over!"
Jaime
picked McKenna up and, wrapped him in his coat, she began to move toward the
exit by giving the order with a nod to take the others.
Never stop hoping
Need to know where you are
But one thing's for sure
You're always in my heart
Danny took
with him one of the remaining two males and Flack took Faith
"Hello
princess! You don’t know how much your dad and your godfather have toiled to
find you! Now you're safe!"
Mac looked
Flack taking off his jacket and he felt the gaze of Faith fixed on him. Mac
looked up at his daughter, being careful not to get too close, and she smiled
at him
"Be a
good little girl with Flack! Daddy cannot take you in his arms for a little
while!"
I'll find you somewhere
I'll keep on trying
Until my dying day
I just need to know
Whatever has happened
The truth will free my soul
Lost in the darkness
Tried to find your way home
I want to embrace you
And never let you go.
At the
hospital the two sets of parents of the children had gathered and there was
even Christine, sat on the sidelines to an IV in his arm and staring into
nowhere.
The doctors
went in with the various cradles and the various parents rushed from their
children.
Adam came
with coffee and sat down near Christine
"Don’t
you go to see if there are also Faith and Kenny?"
"I'm scared!
They can keep their children in their arms, while I can’t!"
"You're
only under observation! It is Mac who must stay away from them because
infected!"
Jo and
Lindsay joined Adam and Christine
"I
spoke to Flack!" Jo said "The kids are coming! Soon you will see them
again!"
"Let's
hope they're all right!" Christine said worried
"Of
course they are!"
Christine
saw the second pair of twins to arrive with Danny
Almost hope you're in heaven
So no one can hurt your soul
Living in agony
Cause I just do not know
Where you are
I'll find you somewhere
I'll keep on trying
Until my dying day
I just need to know
Whatever has happened
The truth will free my soul
Shortly
after, the door opened again and Mac, Flack and Jaime with the doctors, they
entered.
Christine
rose up to his feet. Mac saw her and smiled.
Christine
came up to the cots and the tears began to slide down her cheeks
"Are
they okay?"
"They
are very fine!" Mac answered her "But they will spend the night in
the hospital too!"
At a safe
distance from each other and the children they smiled at each other.
Christine
reached out a hand toward Mac and he caught it up with his one
"And
how are you?"
"Just some fever! And you, Christine?"
"Just some fever!"
Jo and Adam
smiled while Lindsay ran from Danny and kissed him.
Mac and
Christine gently caressed the cheeks of children with indexes and then they
stare in their eyes
"I
could stay here to steer at you and the kids for hours!" Mac told her
"But now we must leave them to the doctors and we have to separate! They
want me to other tests and Sheldon has already committed himself in developing
a formula in the lab! Let's hope it works!"
Wherever you are
I won't stop searching
Whatever it takes me to know
I'll find you somewhere
I'll keep on trying
Until my dying day
I just need to know
Whatever has happened
The truth will free my soul
Nothing was
the same again.
Danny and
Lindsay hugged and peered Mac and Christine hold themselves by the hand, always
at a distance, while the twins were taken away. Flack and Jaime smiled and she
whispered something in his ear which made him laugh. Jo texted to Sheldon
leaning on Adam’s shoulder a message seemingly trivial, but full of all the
existing meanings: -I love you!-
Outside the
Trinity General, New York was living its Friday night and it was tinged of its
night colors.

ReplyDeleteMy heartfelt congratulations you managed to make me have my blood run cold.
You have a really great gift for thrill and suspense, you would rightfully deserve a place as an author.
