EPISODE
II: IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY
Danny was hesitant to enter
the building the Crime Lab that morning "Mac is already in office for
almost three hours, waiting to collect his prize. I’ve shunned him for a week,
but now I have to face him! Adam cursed and damned Flack! "
He was
standing there still and motionless at the building entrance, sitting on the
chair at the bar of the opposite pavement, when a female voice called him
"Danny!"
Immediately
the detective stood up surprised and with a smile to thirty-six teeth he said,
"Stella!"
The two
embraced, "How much time has passed!" Said Danny
"A few
months but it’s still too much!" Stella said enthusiastic "How is
Mac? What about Christine?" She asked smiling rearranging the curls.
"Wow,
how many questions at once! Er ... they're fine! You know, when you get married
the first time is always nice! " Danny said "What are you doing here?"
he asked then
"I'm
here on vacation! I thought to spend some time with you! "
"That's
great! It will be nice to have you here! Mac knows it?" Danny asked,
surprised and delighted by the news as soon as received
"Yes,
I called him personally!"
"Then
you already know the whole story, the fact that I had a son and that Lindsay
and I called him Sid in honor of our dearest friend, because ..."
"That
you had had a son I knew it! Not that I had called him Sid! What's happening to
Sid?" she said changing her look and sitting down on one of the chairs at
the bar "You'd better to tell me everything!"
"All
right! Only if you give me a hand with Mac!" said Danny in front of her
"What's
this? A blackmail?" she said looking him in a sinister way
"No!"
Danny laughed tastily then return suddenly serious "But a big favor!"
Jo looked
at Sid motionless near a cadaver that he was examining, with a sad expression
on his face, she approached softly "Hey!"
"Hey!"
he replied "Why do you have that sad look?"
"It's
the same look as you do now!" she smiled briefly with the tears that were
running on the cheeks
"No,
don’t cry! You make me regret having canceled my resign!" he said hugging
her
"You
told me yesterday on the phone that you've told it to Mac. How did he get
it?"
"There
should have been someone who had filmed the scene and had put it on
YouTube!" Sid smiled. Jo stared at him uncomprehendingly "It doesn’t
happen every day to see a grown man like him crying!" the pathologist laughed
loudly
"He's
been passed a lot yesterday! Too much even for someone like him! "
"You
know, it's nice when there isn’t new work to attend to! Tell me about what is
happening to the Mac, but especially to you, while I’m tidying the morgue! Are
the rumors that I heard true? " he asked putting the corpse in the freezer
"All
right! Let's start with the facts of yesterday, that is Mac, and then move on
to the updates of today, that is me!" Jo smiled.
Adam was
sitting at the computer tapping his lips with the cap of a pen and typed Google
the word "gift". Whether, he was undecided to press enter, he looked
at the screen and he began to nibble at the pen. Suddenly he remembered an
episode like that happened months before: Sheldon had noticed him and sat
beside him on the chair making him wince "Then you really care to have a
body to examine even when there aren’t murders Hawkes!" Adam had said
breathing heavily "I risked a heart attack!"
"Sorry!"
his friend had smiled "Not for me mind your own business, to whom are you
doing the gift?"
"Two
days left, and I do not have anything yet!"
"Let
me understand, you are searching on the one of the most popular search engines
a gift for the wedding?" Adam nodded and Sheldon sighed "There is a
thing called -wedding list- "
"But
if there has never been one because Mac didn’t want it!" Adam had pronounced
"Christine
has been good to change his mind two weeks ago!" Sheldon had smiled
"You better hurry to consult it because I'm afraid that the best gifts
have already been taken" he had stood up to return to work "You know
that friends, in general, are those who consult the list first to make the best
gift, don’t you?"
Adam had
gulped heavily imagining Mac opening his gift: an electric can opener. He then
shook his head to clear the image from his mind “ Would you give it to me
please? "
"Consider
it done! Look next to you!" Adam had smiled seeing the key of Sheldon’s
cabinet
"I'd
kiss you, but I'm not gay!"
Sheldon was
shivered "Hurry up, before I change my mind!"
Returning
to the present, Adam laughed attracting the attention of various laboratory technicians.
Stella and
Danny were getting closer to the office of Mac and they were been sighted by Lindsay
"Stella! When did you arrive?" she greeted her warmly
"Today!"
she said while they were embracing "Danny told me that you called tiny
Messer Sid!" she said looking at her
"Exactly!"
she said smiling "Were you going to Mac?"
"Yes,
it seems that Danny has bet one hundred dollars, but, of course, he doesn’t
have them!" she smiled
"So
you’re being called to replace the price of the bet!" Lindsay concluded
"But
she worthier than a hundred dollars, be careful!" Danny smiled by
subtracting Stella to the conversation "It’s better to hurry up!"
Danny
stopped a few meters away from the office "I'll turn Mac on this side and
as soon as he sees you come in”
"If he
hasn’t seen me yet!" the woman said smiling.
Danny
slowly walked to the office, Mac was holding his tablet and he seemed a lot
concentrated, he braced himself and knocked on the glass door. Mac put the tablet
on the desk and let him in "Look who you do see! Am I wrong or there are a
hundred dollars in suspense? "
"Yes,
I'm here for the bet but ..." he looked for an instant to touch-screen and
a smile crossed his face "I didn’t know that you have fun with games for
children in your spare time!"
Mac became
gloomy "These are not games for children, Danny!"
"I
only know that Lucy makes them to learn new words but she is no longer at these
levels!" he said indicating the object on the desk
"Do you
want the kick in the backside before or after have given me the money?"
Mac said with a cold stare and a calm tone of voice
"Speaking
of money! Since that I haven’t them, I brought you another thing: watch out
there! " he said pointing over the glass walls of the office.
Mac
brightened up seeing the face of Stella and bad moods passed "Danny, we're
good with the bet, but don’t say a word to anyone about what you've seen here
today!" he said indicating the tablet
Danny
nodded and left, opening the door and he hugged Stella halfway down the
corridor whispering in her ear "Thank you!"
"Danny
of anything!"
"I
just discovered that Mac has a problem with the names of things and he does not
want anyone to know it. Try to understand what is due to!" the man said,
moving away and going toward the lab.
Stella hugged
Mac that had already come to meet in the corridor "Only few months are
passed, but it seems much more!"
"True,
Mac!" she said watching him and immediately became serious "Mac we
need to talk, in your office!" he did not know what to say, he shrugged
his shoulders and he replied in a natural way “All right!”
They went
into the office and they sat down at the desk "Are you okay?" she
asked
"I’m
very well!" he said nodding
"You're
a bit clumsy in your movements, did you noticed that?"
"No!"
he said looking into her eyes
"It doesn’t
go through your mind that this could be a condition linked to the fact that you
were shot?"
"Another
time with this story?" Mac became gloomy
"Danny
just told me you're doing exercises to remember the names of common objects.»
Mac inclined an eyebrow without taking his eyes off from Stella that she
sentenced "You are suffering of aphasia since you recovered from the
shooting! Isn’t it? "
"Yes,
and I am improving! It’s much better than before! The doctor says that in my case
I'll have a full recovery!"
Stella looked
at him in a sign challenge "Write to me how the accident occurred!"
Mac was dumbfounded and he looked at her surprised "What? Don’t tell me
you do not know how to do!" Mac took a paper and a pen and wrote a few
lines and he handed it to Stella "Like I thought! No articles! And from
when you say -are I entered in pharmacy-?
" she said critics “What you are you going to do the next time they’ll ask
you to write a report? You can’t always delegate it to the others!"
Mac looked
at her slightly irritated "You came here just to lecture me?"
"No
Mac! I'm here because I care about you! In addition to suffer from aphasia, it
is clear that you suffer from also a form of apraxia and it is normal that you
do not you know it! If it gets any worse you will no longer do your job do you
understand it?" she said with a tone of determination "Do you
remember when two days before the wedding I arrived in town and I asked you to
tell me about your accident? "
"Yes.
The tone of discussion became very similar to this!" said Mac mindful of
the events: that time, a doctor broke the tension knocking on the door of Mac
"As you requested Detective. However, the next time you have to wait for
the normal timing of the hospital " he said handing him an envelope and
leaving.
Stella had
seen the name printed on it "Why your future wife did the analysis?" she
asked calming down
"Yesterday
she was to the hospital for food poisoning and for a scruple they have done other
tests to her!" The Detective said placing the envelope on the desk
"Do
not you read the report?" Stella had asked
"Why
should I?"
"If I
were Christine and there was something wrong I'd rather hear it from you and
not from a piece of paper!" she had said.
Mac had
taken the envelope in his hands and had opened it, explaining the sheets of the
analysis. He had surpassed the first without any sign of concern, at the last
he had widened his eyes and he had become pale "It wasn’t food poisoning!"
he said short of breath and staring at the paper as though in a trance.
Stella had
shown immediately worried "So, what was it?"
That
morning Flack had arrested a couple of thieves. His turn had just finished and
set to Jaime he allowed himself a well-deserved lunch break
"It's
nice when no one kills anyone!" he said sipping his beer sitting on the
bench in the park
"There
is more time for us" she agreed biting the burger in his hand "It's
been a lot that I don’t eat a sandwich
at McDonald's!"
"I did
it only because the nearest place was closed! Those things don’t make me crazy!"
Flack muttered looking angrily at lunch fiancée
"Is
that why you have taken the salad?" she said by throwing a balled napkin
"Do
you want the war Lovato?" he said with a crooked smile "And you'll
have war!" he balled up a couple of napkins and threw them to him against
her.
Stella had
left the laboratory and in the afternoon she had gone to greet Sid "Sid!
My favorite pathologist" she said hugging him
"Stella!
I'm so glad to see you!" he smiled hugging her "You could take the
holiday a few days after! You have no idea of what Mac's birthday you missed last
year! I made him drunk and I convinced him to play golf with me on the roof of
our building! He broke a glass and they shouted that they would have reported us
to the police" he laughed heartily "And Mac shouted -I am the police-. Even Christine couldn’t
stop laughing! This year I wanted him to do something doubly embarrassing!
"
"Why
didn’t you tell me anything about your illness? I'd have been closer to you!"
Stellla said
"Because
I didn’t want someone else would suffered for me! Mac came to know that
officially last week and it was hard to accept even for him!" said Sid watching Jo get in "Good morning! We
were just talking about the birthday ...”
"Oh my
God! Mac drunk is the craziest scene I've ever seen!" she said coming up
to Stella "I'm glad to see you!" she said kissing her "Coffee?
"
"With
pleasure!"
"Sid, do
you come with us?" Jo asked
"No, I
have to finish here ..." he said smiling "See you tonight for a
beer!"
Jo and
Stella were sitting at the bar smiling "Do you remember when Mac has
anticipated the wedding to the day before?" Jo asked
"Yes!
Someone were in crisis because they wouldn’t be able to come, including the relatives
of Christine" said Stella
"The
priest and his urgent commitment which occupied it for several days and so,
rather than getting married in April, Mac had said -tomorrow is perfect! - ” Jo
was folded in two by the laughter" You had to see him! He was organizing
the wedding reception and everything in between on his mobile phone by giving orders
to the chefs of Christine!" she said laughing resting on the table in the
bar, Stella laughed with her
"And
do you remember the face of the Mac? He seemed to be on a different planet!"
Stella said
"And
it was in that moment that we began to understand the reason why" Jo said
stopping to laugh.
Danny
complained to Lindsay as they prepared to leave the lab, it was evening by now.
"Spend
the day to tidy up old cases! But how does one? "
"No
action, but we can say that date has been a different day!" his wife said
pulling on his jacket "Today I am very happy to go home!"
"You
know where Mac is gone? I wanted to talk to him!" Danny said crossing the
corridor next to her
"He
has to make it a missed lunch by Christine!" Lindsay said calling the lift
"When was the last time you took me out for dinner?"
"Ah
... I don’t remember!" he said going into the lift "Maybe in two days
we could tell Rosita to take care of the kids or we could ask to my
mother!"
"It is
better if we ask to Rosita!" Lindsay said firmly as the lift closed.
Mac arrived
at the restaurant of Christine, he saw her in the doorway smiling "Hello
Christine!" he greeted her by kissing her
"It
had been months that you didn’t come to take me after work"
"Do
you remember the last time I came here?"
"How
can I forget it?" she smiled remembering it: Christine was frown at the
entrance of the restaurant "Now explain to me ..." she had said to
Mac, pulling him in for his coat sleeve "... what's all this!" she
said pointing to the chefs handling with dishes of all kinds
"The
priest has a commitment and we could get married tomorrow or next month!"
said Mac
"Well
a nice unexpected episode! But we have a life to spend together Mac! In
addition our relatives there will never be all here! So what if we get married
in a month?! "Christine had asked leaning on a chair with her hands
"A
lot!" Mac said taking out the envelope of the analysis "These would
come to you in three weeks. They are not all the tests they did to you, but
here is already clear from the situation!" he had given them to him kindly
"Have
you read them? Why did you do that?" she said moving away from the chair
"I was
worried and wanted to understand what had happened to you” Mac had taken the
hands of Christine before she could open the envelope "and it isn’t food
poisoning!"
"What
have I got then?" She gasped worried as Mac get sat
"Have
you ever considered the possibility of being more than us after the
wedding?" he said making her sit on his lap
"I
thought about it a bit but ..." she replied settling
"But?"
"What
are you trying to tell me?" she asked him trembling
"That
since two weeks we are three!" Mac replied kissing her sweetly on the
cheek "And I can’t be happier than this!"
Christine
had taken Mac's face and she kissed him intensely "A kid?" she said
moving away surprised, Mac nodded, "I don’t believe it!" she told by
kissing him again.
Mac had
kissed Christine pulling her closer to him "We will have a lot to do
henceforth!" he had whispered detaching himself
"We
already knew that we would not have had the honeymoon!" she smiled kissing
him fleetingly and moving away from his face
"I was
thinking of ask for an increase!" Mac had mentioned by chasing her
"So we will do less effort!" and he was able to kiss her again.
"However,
my parents could give us a hand, since they are in New York!" Christine
had whispered leaning her head in the crook between the shoulder and neck of
Mac
"I
can’t think anything now! You continue to be the only one in my thoughts!"
he said closing his eyes and reclining his cheek on her head.
Stella had
entered in the restaurant with Jo and behind them there were all the other
"So Mac, did you tell that to her?" the woman with the curls smiled.
Mac and
Christine had barred them eyes and they had recomposed at the view of their
friends
"They
all came here to congratulate with you after having received the news" Jo added
"Stella!"
Mac said surprised "I can’t believe it! You said that to all of them!"
"It
was word of mouth ..." Danny said moving closer to couple with Lindsay, who
was still pregnant "Congratulations! We have learned that from Sheldon,
who had known it from Jo, because Stella told it to her! "
"Then
Lindsay told me that as they left the parking lot! But this doesn’t let us run
the traditions!" Flack said
" Get
ready Mac! Now you are coming with us while the girls are taking care of
Christine!" Sid exclaimed.
Mac smiled
and he hold tight Christine hugging her sweetly "No exceptions?" he
had asked
"Falck
take the handcuffs!" Sheldon had exclaimed jokingly
"We
take him by force!" Adam grinned
Mac laughed
and he kissed Christine whispering "See you tomorrow upon the altar!"
"I
remind you that you have to be there before me!"
"But
you haven’t to be late!" he told her with one last kiss
she
laughed, standing up,"All right girls, what did you think to do?"
Mac had
been dragged away by the male members of his team to a bar while his eyes had
crossed one last time Christine's ones.
Christine
laughed "Do you realize that we are already at the beginning of October?"
"Really?
Sorry, but when it’s over the summer?" he asked smiling and calling a
taxi.
Millie
Taylor went into the house and she found a message on the fridge from Mac: -We’re
out for dinner ! Don’t worry we’ll be home at 10 p.m.- She smiled and picked up
the ticket "What do you have to be forgiven for this time?" and she
remembered the day of the of his son’s wedding: 30th March, Mac
opened his eyes reluctantly shaken on the right shoulder by his mother
"Mac wake up!" In response he had emitted a moan bringing his hands
to his face and crouching against the back of the couch.
"Mac!
Two hours!" her mother had shouted at him while she was walking away
toward the kitchen.
The
Detective had sat down and he had appealed to his strength to drag himself to
the bathroom and get under the shower. The hot water seemed to be able to
reinvigorate him a little and the coffee had done the rest.
When he had
opened the closet and he had taken the dress, he had smiled at the thought of
having to wear it.
"Mac!
At what point are you? "Millie had ranted that she had already put on a
gray silk dress and she was stopping at the door of the room " You aren’t
dressed yet?!” Mac shook his head with embarrassment "And you don’t even
dried your hair!" she had continued undaunted. He was distinctly uneasy
with his mother around the house, he was no longer accustomed to that presence
who made his observations for the least thing like before he had enlisted in
the Marine Corps.
"I'll
be ready in fifteen minutes!" He concluded hastily putting on his shirt.
To Millie
hadn’t escaped the singulars accessories of his son: the badge of NYPD on his
belt and a revolver under his pants secured to the right shin “Are you getting
married or are you going into the war, Mac?"
"I
have learned that it is better to be ready for everything Mom!" Mac smiled
rubbing the towel with energy in the hair.
Mac looked
at Christine who smiled amused "I envy you, you know? I would like to
drink that glass of wine in your place, you're pretty much disgusted by it!"
"The
idea of the Italian restaurant was excellent! However, I will choose the wine the
next time!"
"I
reiterate that one of the best wines for the roast of veal with potatoes is
Chianti!" Christine smiled
"Do
you remember our cheers at the wedding?" Mac asked
"What
embarrassing scene! Me with orange juice and you with champagne!" she
picked up her fork to her left and began to eat the green beans "I still
wonder how did you organize it all!"
"Instead
I'd like you to know how that day started!" and he got ready to tell: in front
of the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Patrick as there was a great gathering
made up of friends and relatives well-dressed. By a taxi just arrived, Mac had
come down followed by the mother.
"It
was the time you arrived Mac!" Danny had screamed holding Lucy
"Mac!"
the little girl had cried wriggling and stretching her arms to the Detective in
a tux
"Hello
Lucy!" Mac had greeted her taking her in his arms "What a beautiful
pink dress!"
"You
like it? I bought it with mom, "the girl had said smiling
"You
look like a princess!" Mac had whispered in her ear releasing her to her
father, she had had time to lean out one last time to him and to give him a
kiss on the cheek
"Where
did you leave Lindsay?" Mac had asked to Danny by looking around
"With
the other bridesmaids!" Danny said pointing to Jo, Lindsay and a
red-haired girl who did not know Mac. She was staring at him in the same way
that you shall set a thief. She was very young, she couldn’t be just a friend
of Christine. To continue to stare like that wasn’t polite but none of them
would be the first to surround himself or herself at the challenging look of
the other.
Millie had
put a hand on his son's shoulder to call up his attention: even Reed was coming
"Claire's son has arrived!"
Mac would
have had later to learn more about the mysterious girl, at the time he had
something more important to do "Reed! Hello!" he had started laying a
hand on his shoulder "How are you? "
"I'm
fine Mac!" he had said hugging him "How do you feel before the
wedding?" he asked changing the subject
"I'd
say I'm nervous, but I'm trying to remain calm!" he had sighed "But
you have them right? Haven’t you lost them along the way?"
"I'd
never forgive myself if I lost the rings! For what you mean to me, it was an
honor keeping them!" the twenty nine year old boy had laughed "Do you
trust or you want to see them?"
"I
take your word!"
Between the
last people had arrived, Mac had seen Stella in a beautiful blue silk dress
that fell up to sub the knees, with a slit up to the middle of the right thigh
and adorned with a silver band at the waist "Do you know who brings the wedding
rings to the altar true?" Mac had asked the stepson nodded in sign of
response “Well, go!"
Stella had
approached Mac and hugged him "How lucky you are Mac!" she had said
in his ear "I just needed to spend one night with Christine to worship!
She will be a perfect wife and a perfect mother and you'll come back to be
officially Mac Taylor I knew once! "
"You're
wishing me to get back to be the Mac who reasoned even a little with the heart
and not just with the brain?" he asked with a smile "Let’s get in!"
said climbing the steps.
The guests
had taken place in the church and Mac was with Flack and Stella before the
altar.
Lindsay,
the red-haired mysterious girl, Jo and Jamie had remained at the church square,
waiting for the car with Christine, which had arrived on time, it was black
with darkened windows. While the bride was coming down she had started ask
"Am I late?"
"You're
punctual!" Jo had exclaimed
"But
now go and prepare yourself to enter!" Jamie had incited her "The
church is full! Almost all the police corps have come! "
Christine
had took a step at a time, afraid, on the stairs
"Hello!"
the red-haired girl greeted her affectionately on the top of the ramp
"Are
you a friend of the Mac?"
"Yes,
a sort!" she said offering her hand "Who will accompany you up to the
altar?"
"Me"
a male voice exclaimed behind her.
Christine
had turned suddenly and smiled "Uncle Max! You managed to come! " beside
him there were the parents of Christine who had smiled "Darling you're
beautiful!" her mother had said to her
"You
don’t know what a hard work we did for making your uncle arrive on time from
Miami!" her father said
"I was
too excited by the possibility of making the third grade again at the famous
Detective that I didn’t resist! In addition, since the rest of the family wasn’t
able to come because of the last minute anticipation, it was right there that
I'd be here!" the huge man with beard and pearl-colored hair and golden
glasses had explained, handing her his arm "Ready? It is still not late to
go back and escape! "
"Stop
it! I'm already afraid to fall!" she had laughed
"I won’t
let that happen! I have to keep a promise to your parents!" he winked at
her tightening the hand of the arm strapped to his one
"So,
we are going in!" Christine's father had smiled taking his wife by the arm
and entering the cathedral.
Mac had
seen in the intense light at the end of the cathedral the emergence of the
figures of Christine's parents, they had taken place near Millie, soon after, he
had begun to catch a glimpse of the bridesmaids that were advancing "Here
we are Mac!" Flack had whispered to him
"Don,
I’m nervous!”
"From
your face you would not think! You hide your emotions well!" the wedding
witness had replied
"Be
quiet Don!" Stella had called him by crushing his foot with a heel.
The wedding
march started, and Christine had begun to advance slowly into the nave. Her
blond hair was gathered in an elegant chignon perfectly intertwined with the
white veil that left only free a lock that fell soft on her right shoulder. The
dress, with simple cut, was made with white silk, a tight corset with wide
sleeves "hung up" at the back and a skirt slipped with a little
volume. Her accompanist was smiling and he was walking safely next to her,
holding her under his arm gently.
Mac still
couldn’t see her and even the witnesses to the altar because of the guests who
were standing and they were admiring her, taking away their view. As soon as
Christine had come close enough to meet the eyes of Mac, she realized that on
his face had appeared an expression of surprise. Those were his usual blue eyes
but she had never seen them in that way. Those eyes were immensely happy, they
did not expect anything of what was happening, they had imagined that moment
several times, but they would have never thought it would be that way as well.
The priest
had made closer Christine to the altar and her uncle had taken place alongside
the parents of Christine in the front row "Dearly beloved, we are gathered
here today to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony» Mac had held Christine’s
hands and he had kept looking at her blue eyes always smiling. "If anyone
has any objection speak now or be silent forever!" that was the only
moment that Mac had been taken off the look if the bride to peer among the
seating positions of the cathedral there was someone ready to ruin that perfect
moment.
No one had
answered the priest had continued with the ceremony and eventually the final
moment had arrived: the little Lucy had walked the short distance that
separated the altar from the bench on the front row carrying the wedding rings
on a pillow “McKenna Llewellyn Taylor Jr, do you take the here present
Christine Whitney, as your wife in order to love her and honor her in joy and in sorrow, on wealth and in poverty
as long as you both have life?"
Danny who
had followed Lucy near the altar, finding himself in this manner alongside to Lindsay
had whispered to her ear "Did you know the fact his full name was so
long?"
"No!"
she replied "Stop talking or we will miss the most important moment!"
Mac had
hold in his hands the ring "Yes, I do!" now the left ring finger of
Christine was also wearing the sign of that promise
“And you,
Christine Whitney, do you take the here present McKenna Llewellyn Taylor Jr, as
your husband in order to love him and honor him in joy and in sorrow, on wealth
and in poverty as long as you both have life?"
Even she
had taken the ring in her hands, smiling at the little Lucy "Yes, I
do!" she said sliding it onto Mac’s finger.
"With the power vested in me by God, I
now pronounce you husband and wife!" Mac and Christine were looking in the
eyes, smiling unable to move. All had remained silent, motionless "Mac!
Generally at this point the husband kisses the bride!" Danny had screamed.
Stella and
Flack had started to laugh and they were joined by the bridesmaids and the
first rows of benches.
Mac,
initially embarrassed by the laughs, had leaned toward Christine kissing her gently on her
lips and in that moment the applause of the participants had started with few
tears of uncle Max, mother Taylor and the Whintneys.
"Wow!"
Mac smiled "By combining our memories we get a comprehensive and overall
I'd say it was a beautiful wedding!"
"The
after ceremony at the Plaza Hotel was the perfect ending!" Christine said
finishing the vegetables "May we pass a second at my restaurant
later?"
"Have you
to fix you something?" Mac asked "Okay let's go there now!" he
said putting down his fork.
Mac was
left alone with Christine in her restaurant, everything was clean and tidy and
even the cleaning staff had gone home. The dining room was all for them, the
door locked, the blinds lowered and the silence reigned between husband and
wife who remained motionless, hugging each other on a small sofa.
"We
have to begin to think to him or her ..." Mac whispered
"There
haven’t even been able to tell the sex because he hides himself! Do you prefer
a male or a female?" she whispered in response
"I
would like them both! I would like a male and a female! "
"Do
you want twins?" Christine asked surprise
"Why
not!" he said leaning toward to kiss her, he stopped just before to
establish contact with her because of his mobile phone ringing "I'm
sorry"
"Work?"
she asked
"Yes
it is Jo!" he sighed answering "What’s up, Jo?" he nodded
listening to the voice of my colleague, "I’m arriving immediately!"
Christine
snorted standing up "Ah Mac! You have to take away my a curiosity: the
girl with red hair and green dress, who was at our wedding, who is she? "
"I've
never seen her before!" he said heading for the door "I thought she
was your relative! Evidently, I was wrong! "
"I saw
her to the bathroom tonight and she greeted me!" Christine said looking
into his eyes. Mac looked at her with a stern expression "Don’t tell me
that I have to be careful on the way home!" she said by anticipating him
"You
will do much more than this: you’ll get out of here with me, I'll take you home
to my mother and every quarter of an hour you will write a message!"
They got
into the car and, before starting the engine, Mac looked around suspiciously.
At home Mac
put his jacket and took off his pants and the shirt to wear a t-shirt and pants
more comfortable, that was when Christine saw the gun that he had hidden to the
ankle "You had it for the whole evening?”
"I don’t
leave home without a weapon from my discharge by the Marines Corps!" Mac
said removing it from himself "Since we are in the theme, I had it also on
the wedding day!" he had put the usual policeman's gun to his belt “I prefer you keep this!" he said by
passing the revolver in the hands of his wife "It may always be useful!"
he said onto the way to the door "Take care of each other and every fifteen
minutes make yourself heard!" the two women nodded "I love you both!"
Mac said leaving.
At the
crime scene there was a great turmoil, it was the home of a sixteen year old
girl who has her parents out of town and in the basement was found a cadaver
with several bruises on the body.
Jo and
Stella greeted Mac and they accompanied him in the basement where, even Hawkes
covered their mouth and nose with a handkerchief. The pungent smell enveloped
the entire room but it did not seem to center directly with the cadaver.
"Gasoline,
alcohol, vanilla ... but what they did here?"
"You
skipped two smells Stella blood and dead body!" Mac concluded coming up to
Hawkes "What can you tell me?"
"These
are definitely bite marks and Mac as you see our victim has no clothes"
"One
thing rather unusual!" Jo said
"How
strange that the man who is freshly dead comes from New Orleans!" Stella said
"Robert Lewis. I'm looking for him by nearly two weeks! He’s guilty of a
murder and now he has become the victim! "

"Who
goes around comes around!" Mac ruled "I think that we will work with
you Stella, call some of your people and tell them to join us here in the city!"
Stella went
out with her mobile phone in her hands "Goodbye holiday"
"I
guess that Christine wasn’t very happy to see you disappear just when you had
offered her a romantic evening!" Hawkes smiled
"No,
indeed!"
Mac’s
mobile phone rang in that moment and on the display appeared a message:
"Hey! How's the job? There is nothing wrong here. I won’t deny that I
would be more quiet if you were at home with us! Kiss! "
Then another
message came from an unknown number: "I know what happened in Beirut in
1983! Now I want someone to pay and you must help me! "
"Are
you okay Mac?" Hawkes asked
"Not
at all!" he ruled looking anxiously at his colleagues.
